My name is Ryan Garcia, I have been a hospitalist PA for almost 5 years. Prior to my formal medical education I was an ER scribe at a large hospital for 2 years, as well as an Anatomy & Physiology Laboratory teacher at a Junior college. I trained at University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, TX where I received my Masters of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS). During my education I founded the PA surgical society at the university and was the first president of the group. After graduation I began working a W2 position at a local hospital where I gained experience and knowledge. I started to dabble in 1099 work prior to the Covid 19 pandemic working in trauma surgery. I enjoy the freedom that a 1099 position allows me to have both monetarily and time based. I spend my free time with my wife, and 2 dogs, traveling around the world, playing disc golf, and spending time with friends and family. I have a passion for teaching and hope to see you guys in the classes where we can work together to help with a transition to 1099!

FAQ

Why is a 1099 an acceptable tax structure for RNs?

A 1099 is an IRS form similar to the W-2 form that employers send to their employees at the end of the year. A 1099 form is used for the same information reporting function but for independent income, commonly used for contractors.

Why is this masterclass different?

If you’ve tried to start setting up a 1099 business but you haven’t been able to make it happen, it’s OK.  Most people get hung up just trying to get information to start the W2 to 1099 transition process and then, for many different reasons, they stop trying. Sometimes they get fearful that they just don’t know how to start the process correctly and how to make it work.

Why would I choose to attend the masterclass instead of doing it alone?

This masterclass is different than just trying to pick up bits and pieces of information and trying to define your business and your scheduling freedom on your own. This masterclass is going to lay it all out for you over a period of 8 weeks and at the end of that time, you will have everything situated so that the transition from W2 to 1099 will be very smooth and very well thought out. We’re going to have weekly Q&A sessions and discussion sessions so that you’ll have a full understanding of each aspect and you’ll feel confident stepping ahead into a successful 1099 lifestyle.

What if I miss a class?

All classes will be offered on-demand after the class time and accessible for review.

Do RNs Qualify to Work Under a 1099 Tax Status?

When RNs work, they do not require instructions or supervision for their assigned patient care. They independently carry out all responsibilities related to job performance. According to the IRS definition of Independent Contractor (Self-Employed or Employee): Common Law Rules: “with regards to behavioral, financial, and type of relationship” (irs.gov), these aspects of work are done independently. Therefore, RNs satisfy the requirements of independent contractor.

1099 status is presently a common and standard practice across the USA, especially in long term care, home health, outpatient facilities, Critical Access Hospitals, and community hospitals. Despite this, agencies and Vendor Management Systems that profit wildly from RNs have posted misinformation regarding 1099 due to financial benefit.

How can I obtain CME reimbursement from my employer in a way that is discreet about my future W-2 to 1099 plans?

To honor your privacy at your present W-2 position, we provide a receipt with discreet CME reimbursement documentation. The logo on the receipt says “Financial Success Academy”. The classes are called “RN Financial Freedom” which is the 1099 Freedom Masterclass and “RN investments” which is the QuickBooks for 1099 RN’s.

In order to request a discreet receipt you must email paris@1099successacademy.com
